How do I create thumbnails with Thumbnail Studio?

Thumbnail Studio turns a video idea, script, or existing YouTube video into finished 16:9 thumbnails built on proven high-CTR design patterns — no design skills or software required.

Generating thumbnails

  1. Open Thumbnail Studio under Content Creation.
  2. Give it a starting point: a YouTube link, one of your saved scripts, or a written idea.
  3. Choose how many concepts to generate — 1 to 5 at once (5 is the default).
  4. Optionally turn on the two add-ons:
    • Style Match — point at any channel or playlist and the AI learns its colors, fonts, and layout so new thumbnails match that visual brand. Your own connected channel is pre-filled by default. Available on every plan.
    • Host Face — upload a photo once and the AI composites you naturally into the design, matching lighting and style.
  5. Steer the design with freeform instructions, built-in layout and style presets, or by pasting up to 10 YouTube links as visual reference.

Refining the result

  • Magic Edit — describe a change in plain language ("add an airplane in the corner") and the AI applies it. Every edit is saved as its own version, so nothing is overwritten.
  • Create Variation — one-click regenerate for a fresh take on the same direction.

Regular vs Pro mode

Regular mode is fast, high quality, and the default. Pro mode (Pro plan and above) runs a noticeably higher-effort pass: stronger models, higher image quality, a deeper style blueprint built from up to 30 of a channel's thumbnails, automatic research of real reference images for specific people, products, or landmarks, and iteration memory so regenerations are genuinely different takes.

  • Regular generation: 4 credits per thumbnail
  • Pro mode: 44 credits per thumbnail (4 + 40 surcharge)

If a batch partially fails, only the failed thumbnails are refunded; if the whole batch fails, the full cost is refunded automatically.

Do I need a Pro plan to make thumbnails?

No. Generation, Style Match, Host Face, Magic Edit, and all the free tools work on every plan including Free — usage is limited only by your credits. Only Pro generation mode requires a Pro plan or higher.

Can the thumbnail include my face?

Yes — upload a photo once with Host Face (PNG, JPG, or WebP, at least 700x700px, under 5MB) and the AI composites you into the design with matched lighting.

Where do my thumbnails go?

Every thumbnail ever generated lives in your searchable Gallery and History. You can revisit, download, or reload any past result back into the editor.

Can Hugo make thumbnails for me?
