What is YouTube Explorer and what can I do with it?

Updated September 27, 2026

YouTube Explorer is TubeAI's research side. It lets you study the wider YouTube landscape beyond your own channel: which creators are winning in your niche, which videos broke out, which topics are heating up, and which title structures and words keep performing. Everything runs on TubeAI's own database of analyzed channels and videos. Browsing it costs no credits.

You'll find it in the sidebar under Youtube Explorer, with six pages: Channels, Videos, Niche Finder, Folders, Trending Formats and Viral Vectors. You don't need to connect a YouTube channel to use it. A few comparison views do use your connected channel as the "you" in the comparison.

Channels: find creators and competitors

Search TubeAI's channel database by name or handle, then narrow it by niche, subscribers, average views, outlier rate, upload frequency, format and host type. Click a card for a quick preview of the channel's top outliers and recent uploads, or click the name to open the full Channel Profile with growth history and similar channels.

Switch the search box to Similar to find look-alike channels. Type an @handle, or describe a niche in plain words such as "faceless finance explainers". The first search for a new channel or topic can take about a minute. After that it's fast for everyone.

Tip: Hide inactive is on by default and hides channels with no upload in the last 180 days. If you can't find a channel, switch it off first.

Videos: browse what performs

The Videos page is a filterable grid of analyzed videos. Each card shows two scores:

  • Outlier multiplier (pink): how the video did against that channel's usual performance. 3x means three times its normal views.
  • V/S (purple): views compared with the channel's subscriber count. A high V/S means the video reached far beyond the existing audience.

The page opens on Top creators, which shows only the highest-rated creators, newest first. To see more, change the sort to Most views or Highest multiplier and widen the publication date.

Two more views sit at the top of the page:

  • A/B Strategies: videos whose title or thumbnail was changed after publishing, and what the change did to their views. It also flags videos that look like a YouTube Test & Compare rotation.
  • Hot Topics: the last 24 hours of uploads grouped into topics, so you can see what everyone is posting about today.

Niche Finder: spot what is growing

Niche Finder is a heatmap of sub-niches (or tags). Each block's size shows how big it is, and its colour shows how fast its channels are gaining audience compared with a typical block. Green is faster, red is slower. Use it to find a micro-niche that is quietly taking off, then click Browse in Channels to see the creators inside it.

Folders: save and compare

Folders are your saved lists of videos or channels. Add anything from Channels or Videos with the Add button on a card, or select several at once. Folders are free to build and share, and they feed the creation tools. For example, Quick Ideas and Titles & Description can work from a folder you choose.

Channel folders also have analysis tabs. Benchmark compares you with your competitors on subscribers, views, upload frequency, publishing schedule and video length. Videos is a live feed of their uploads. When you connect your channel, TubeAI builds an Auto Competitors folder for you, so you have a competitor list from day one. Some folder features, such as smart folders and the Momentum and Length tabs, depend on your plan.

Trending Formats and Viral Vectors: packaging that works

  • Trending Formats ranks reusable title templates, such as "I tried [action] for [duration]". Each one shows how often it's used, how its videos perform and real example videos.
  • Viral Vectors ranks individual title words that win across many niches. It shows each word's best pairings and synonyms, plus a Phrases list of multi-word fragments.

Every plan can open both pages. Full search and the complete lists depend on your plan.

How Explorer connects to the rest of TubeAI

  • Hugo Strategist can see what's on your screen in Explorer. Ask it to summarise the results you're looking at, or have it search the database for you.
  • Creation tools read your folders, so research you save here turns directly into ideas, titles and scripts.
  • Your Dashboard covers your own channel. Explorer covers everyone else.

Good to know

  • Explorer only shows creator channels TubeAI has approved. A channel you know exists may not appear in search. Similar mode usually still finds it.
  • Numbers are TubeAI's latest observations, so very new uploads or profile changes can take a little time to appear.
  • Each account has a generous daily request limit to prevent automated scraping. Normal browsing never gets close to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does YouTube Explorer cost credits?

No. Searching, filtering, opening profiles, building folders and sharing them are all free. Credits are only used when you run a creation tool, such as Quick Ideas, on a folder.

Do I need to connect my YouTube channel?

No. Explorer works with just a TubeAI account. Connecting your channel adds the comparison views, such as a channel folder's Benchmark tab, and builds your Auto Competitors folder.

Why can't I find a specific channel?

First switch off Hide inactive, which hides channels with no upload in 180 days. Explorer's search also only lists approved creator channels. Try Similar mode with the channel's @handle, or paste the channel into a folder.

What is the difference between the outlier multiplier and V/S?

The outlier multiplier compares a video with its own channel's usual views. V/S compares its views with the channel's subscriber count. A small channel with a breakout video can score high on both.

What is the difference between Hot Topics and Niche Finder?

Hot Topics shows what creators posted about in the last 24 hours. Niche Finder shows which sub-niches' channels are gaining audience fastest over days. For proven winners, use the Videos page sorted by multiplier, or Trending Formats.
