ABOUT Girl Meets Farm: In 2021, I left South Africa with a suitcase, two dogs, and a dream of a safer, more sustainable life. A year later, I bought a small farm in Central Portugal with every penny I had. No running water, no plumbing, no heat - just four walls and endless possibility. For three years, I've been building a home from scratch with no experience, learning through mistakes, and leaning on help when I need it. Starting over solo in a foreign country hasn't been easy, but I'm here to share it all - the good, the bad, and the exhausting. This is my adventure as a solo expat on a farm in Central Portugal with my two fur-kids, Shakti & Shiva and 5 cats who decided to call the farm home. I've never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.
