Tenley E. Raj is an independent filmmaker, writer, director, and editor based in Houston, Texas. Since 2023 she has worked as a one-woman production, handling every stage of her films herself, from the first draft to the final grade. The arrangement is practical, but it is also a method. Working alone keeps the distance between an idea and its execution short, and it lets her films hold the texture of a single sensibility. Her work occupies the unsettled ground between documentary and fiction. She draws directly from her own life, then shapes that material with the deliberateness of narrative filmmaking. The result is work that resists easy classification: films that feel observed rather than staged, yet are clearly composed. She is less interested in the boundary between truth and invention than in what each can reveal about the other. Underneath all of it is a conviction she returns to often: that the most specific stories are the most universal.
