This channel presents the authentic voices of the Civil War, providing a first-person narrative of the Great American Conflict. Writing & Fighting the Civil War--Soldier Letters from the Battlefront: Eager for first-hand news from the battlefield, the New York Sunday Mercury asked the departing soldiers to write and “inform us of any events of interest.” This request generated the most detailed collection of journalistic correspondence written during the war. For four long & bloody years, hundreds of soldiers wrote thousands of letters to the Sunday Mercury creating a unique history. Meanwhile, throughout the South, Confederate soldiers also corresponded with hometown-journals. They describe the spirit of the rebel soldier in camp, on the march, and enduring horrific carnage on the battlefield. Generals in Bronze--Interviewing the Commanders of the Civil War: Artist J. E. Kelly interviewed nearly 50 Generals and was given previously unknown details of their wartime experiences.
