Data study: The fastest-growing YouTube niches right now

Right now, the fastest-growing YouTube niches are kids content, ASMR, creator education, challenge and stunt entertainment, and AI. Once you compare channels of the same size, a typical channel in these niches gains roughly 1.4% to 1.6% more subscribers every 30 days. The typical channel across all niches gains 0.97%. Go one level down and the lead widens: teen entertainment, prank and challenge, and social experiment channels are growing at more than twice the typical rate.

I measured this across 144,370 creator channels in the TubeAI database, using subscriber readings taken between September 7 and September 27, 2026. This post shows the rankings, explains why a fair comparison has to control for channel size, and covers what a fast-growing niche can and cannot tell you.

How I measured growth

TubeAI records each channel's subscriber count about once a day. For every creator channel with at least 1,000 subscribers and at least 18 days of readings, I took the first and last count in the window and turned the change into a percentage. To make channels comparable, I scaled every result to a 30-day rate. I then ranked each niche and sub-niche by the median channel, so one viral channel cannot pull a whole niche up.

This measures how fast a typical channel in a niche is gaining audience. It does not measure which niche earns the most, has the most views, or is easiest to enter.

Why channel size has to be controlled

A 5,000-subscriber channel that gains 100 subscribers grows 2%. A 2-million-subscriber channel needs 40,000 new subscribers to match that. So percentage growth falls as channels get bigger, and in our data it falls steeply.

Three steps to compare niches fairly: start from all channels, keep one size band, then rank niches within that band so like is compared with like.
Rank niches within one size band, not across all channels.
Smaller channels grow faster in percentage terms: 1.22% per 30 days for 1K-10K channels versus 0.29% for 100K-1M channels

This matters because niches differ a lot in size. The median kids channel in our data has about 147,000 subscribers, while the median AI channel has about 27,000. Rank niches without controlling for size and the result mostly reflects which niches have smaller channels. In that raw ranking, kids content lands 16th and challenge and stunt entertainment lands near the bottom, simply because their channels are big.

So the rankings below only use channels with 10,000 to 100,000 subscribers at the start of the window. That is 71,809 channels, and their median growth is 0.97% per 30 days. It is also the size band where most creators reading this are working.

The fastest-growing niches

These are the 12 fastest-growing niches with at least 150 channels in the 10K-100K band.

Among 10K-100K subscriber channels, Kids Content, ASMR and Creator Economy grew fastest at about 1.5-1.6% per 30 days, against a 0.97% median across all niches

The median tells you how the typical channel is doing. A second measure tells you how many channels are breaking out: the share of channels that grew 5% or more in 30 days. On that measure, challenge and stunt entertainment (28.2%) and AI (24.8%) stand out. In both, about one channel in four is growing fast. The figure across all 144,370 channels is 12.6%.

Gaming deserves a mention even though it ranks 13th. It is by far the largest niche, with 14,514 channels in this size band alone, and it still grows faster than the typical niche (1.20% against 0.97%). A crowded niche is not necessarily a stagnant one.

The fastest-growing sub-niches

Niches are broad. Sub-niches are where a creator actually picks a lane, and the gaps between them are wider. These are the 12 fastest of 292 sub-niches with at least 75 channels in the 10K-100K band.

Teen entertainment, prank and challenge, and social experiment channels grew fastest at about 2.2-2.4% per 30 days, more than double the 0.97% median for 10K-100K channels

Three patterns stand out:

  • Challenge formats are winning across niches. Prank and challenge, social experiments, gaming challenges and physical challenges all make the top ten. The format is spreading, not just one niche.
  • ASMR is growing across the board. Tapping and triggers (583 channels), roleplay (651) and no-talking ASMR (266) are all in the top 12. Those are large samples, so it is a real signal and not a handful of lucky channels.
  • AI growth is broad. Just below the chart, AI tool reviews (510 channels), AI tutorials (546) and AI research explainers (161) each grow at about 1.5% per 30 days. In AI research explainers, 28.6% of channels grew 5% or more.

Small samples need more caution. Teen entertainment tops the list with 117 channels, and game tutorials and guides has 83. Treat those as strong early signals, not settled facts.

The slowest-growing niches

At the other end, again among 10K-100K channels:

Slow growth is not the same as a bad niche. Fishing, homesteading and metalworking audiences tend to be loyal, and a slow-growing niche can still earn well. What the numbers say is that, in this window, the typical channel in these niches is adding subscribers at well under the typical pace. Crypto is the clearest case: a typical crypto channel grew less than a quarter as fast as the typical channel overall.

How to use this if you are choosing a niche

  1. Look at sub-niches, not niches

The gap between sub-niches is wider than the gap between niches. Teen entertainment grows at 2.43% while its parent niche grows at 1.27%.

  2. Compare yourself to channels your size

If you have 20,000 subscribers, compare yourself with 10K-100K channels. A benchmark built from million-subscriber channels will always look slow.

  3. Check the breakout share, not just the median

A niche where one channel in four grows 5%+ per month, like AI or challenge content, gives new channels more chances to break out.

  4. Match growth with what you can sustain

A fast niche you cannot produce for consistently is worse than a steady niche you can. Growth rates tell you where the audience is moving, not where you will do your best work.

  5. Package for the niche you pick

Once you have a lane, the title still decides whether people click. Start with formats that already work, not a blank page.

For that last step, our breakdown of the best YouTube title formats, ranked by data shows which templates outperform their channels most often. The YouTube Titles section has more on writing titles that get clicked.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest-growing YouTube niche right now?

Among channels with 10K-100K subscribers, Kids Content grew fastest at a median 1.59% per 30 days, closely followed by ASMR (1.56%), Creator Economy & Strategy (1.50%), Challenge & Stunt Entertainment (1.47%) and AI & Machine Learning (1.44%). The typical channel across all niches grew 0.97%. Data covers September 7-27, 2026.

Which YouTube sub-niches are growing fastest?

Teen entertainment (2.43% per 30 days), prank and challenge (2.21%) and social experiments (2.20%) led the 292 sub-niches we ranked. Several ASMR and AI sub-niches with hundreds of channels each also grew well above the typical rate.

Is AI a good YouTube niche?

On growth, yes. AI channels with 10K-100K subscribers grew at a median 1.44% per 30 days, and 24.8% of them grew 5% or more, about double the rate across all channels. AI tool reviews, tutorials and research explainers are all growing.

Is crypto still a good YouTube niche?

It is the slowest-growing niche we measured. Crypto channels with 10K-100K subscribers grew at a median 0.23% per 30 days, against 0.97% for all niches. That reflects the current window, not a permanent verdict.

Why do small channels grow faster?

Percentage growth depends on the starting size. Channels with 1K-10K subscribers grew at a median 1.22% per 30 days, while 100K-1M channels grew at 0.29%. That is why this analysis compares niches using channels of similar size.
